AS1 line refers to a marked area on the top of windshield where tinting is permitted. It’s not just a random mark it is a calculated area to maintain unobstructed vision for drivers. In tinting industry AS1 line acts as a “eyebrow” of the vehicle.
In the attached image you can clearly see the AS1 line mark on the windshield.
AS1 line typically extends 5 to 6 inches from top of the windshield towards bottom.
Window tinting laws in US states restrict to apply tinted material below the AS1 line, as it impairs the driver’s view while driving which may cause accidents.
Purpose of AS1 line
The main purpose of indicating AS1 line is to maintain the clear visibility for the driver. All US State have legislated tint laws to restrict installing the tinted materials below the AS1 line for the driver’s clear view of roads, Traffic signals, Vehicles and other elements.
It is recommended to follow the Window tinting laws in your state, before applying tinted materials on front windshield.
Compliance with Tinting Laws
All US states made it mandatory to comply with AS1 line regulations as part of tinting laws. Any individual driving a vehicle with a tinted material installed past AS1 line shall be guilty of Tint laws and punished with fine or legal actions.
If the tinted material is installed below the AS1 line, it impairs the drivers vision which may cause personal injury to the occupants of vehicle. Hence, it is mandatory to comply with the State Tint laws to avoid legal action and risk of accidents.
Further to the above, some states don’t allow the reflective tint on the windshield, while some states restrict colored tint, so choose the right tint type to ensure compliance with the tinting laws of your state.
