Window Tint Reflection

According to Window Tinting Rules of Louisiana, On the front windshield and all other windows, no tinting material may have a solar reflectance of 20 percent or higher. The same condition is applicable for both Cars and SUV or Trucks.

Vehicle operators and owners must ensure to affix or apply the suitable kind of tinting material having minimal solar reflectance. As the reflective tint material when applied to windows, produces glare due to sunlight or headlights of other vehicles.

Other Rules and Regulations

There are some other rules and regulations which are required to be followed by drivers:

  • Dual Side Mirrors: Louisiana state tinting rules do not require dual side mirrors to install the tinting materials.
  • Restricted Tint Colors: Red and Amber tint colors are restricted to apply on the AS-1 Line of front windshield.
  • Certificates: Window film manufacturers need to certify the tinting material they sell in Louisiana.
  • Stickers: The sticker or label of one and half square inches in size shall be provided by installer. The label identifies legal tint material is installed and it should be displayed on the windows between film and glass.

Medical Exemption

Louisiana tint laws allow medical exemption to any person who need to get shielded from direct sun due to some medical conditions. The registered owner, spouse or family members are authorize to operate such vehicle.  Any medical exemption granted shall be due to a diagnosed condition by a licensed optometrist or physician. The medical illness must be verifiable as a recognized disease in the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Edition, published by the WHO (ICD-9-CM).

The medical exemption certificate shall be reviewed after every 3 years. However, an exemption granted to a person with porphyria shall be valid as long as the ownership of a vehicle remains valid.

Lastly, The decal shall be issued by the Department of Public safety to display on the vehicle at all the times. The label indicates that such vehicle is authorized to install lower tint materials due to medical conditions.

Penalties for Violating Tint Laws

If someone is found in violating Louisiana tint laws, shall be fined $150 for their first offense. The driver will be fined $250 for a second offense. The cost for the third and subsequent offenses is $350.

Further, Any installer or distributor who install illegal tint shall be fined one thousand dollars for the first offense. Also, Second offense shall be fined with Two thousand dollars. Third offense will cause suspension of such business.
